Manhattan KS Faculty Position Announcement
Assistant or Associate Professor of Interior Architecture and Product Design: full-time, 9 month, tenure-track position to begin in August 2008.
Required Duties and Responsibilities:
The faculty seeks an individual with the ability to contribute to an integrated curriculum of interior architecture, product design and furniture design.
Applicants should demonstrate expertise in the following areas:
- Ability to teach all levels of undergraduate and graduate product and interior related design studios, with primary emphasis in third year and graduate level product design
- Working knowledge of 3-D computer modeling programs such as Rhino, AliasStudio, 3D Studio Max, VIZ, etc.
- Ability to teach one or more large lecture courses in subjects related to Product Design such as human factors, design theory, sustainable materials, materials and manufacturing, visual communications
- To be considered for Associate Professor, applicants must demonstrate research and/or creative activities consistent with rank at the Associate Professor level.
Faculty duties include:
- Commitment to creative, effective teaching in the department’s core curriculum at undergraduate and graduate levels
- Development of significant research or creative scholarship supportive of departmental goals and objectives
- Collegial participation in departmental and college governance
- Assisting in the on-going development of the first professional graduate curriculum
- Supporting the team effort in the coordination and sequencing of courses in product design and interior architecture.
Required Qualifications:
- A master’s degree or higher
- A professional degree in Industrial Design/Product Design, Interior Architecture/Interior Design, Architecture, or a related professional field with demonstrable experience in Industrial Design/Product Design
- Demonstrable teaching experience
- Ability to qualify for membership on the KSU Graduate Faculty (http://www.k-state.edu/grad/handbook/chap6.htm)
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrable background and experience in interior architecture/interior design and/or furniture design
- Demonstrable background and experience in fields such as exhibit design, tradeshow design, and/or design of vehicular interiors (aircraft, marine craft, and automobiles)
- Familiarity with sustainable design issues and use of sustainable materials
- Interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary experience in teaching, practice or research.
Salary: Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
The Department:
Located in a multidisciplinary design college offering Architecture, Interior Architecture & Product Design, Landscape Architecture, Regional and Community Planning in a land-grant institution, the department values collaboration and service to our professions and communities. The department has recently converted its curriculum to a five-year Master of Interior Architecture and Product Design program (MIAPD), first-professional degree. Accredited by NASAD and CIDA (since 1974), the IAPD program is built upon a 40-year tradition of providing students with a nationally recognized and innovative education. Our current curriculum changes and faculty recruitment efforts are intended to continue this tradition well into the 21st century.
